Golden Retrievers were bred in the 1800’s
by Lord Yellow Tweedmouth. In the Scottish highlands he crossed the Flat-Coated
Retriever, Tweed Water Spaniel bloodhound, and Irish setter. Golden Retrievers
are a member of the sporting group of dogs. They were bred to retrieve birds for
hunters.
Golden retrievers have a maximum height of 24
inches and a maximum weight of 80 pounds.
Golden Retrievers have turned out to be one
of the best pets that a person can buy. They are energetic and get along well
with children. They are very intelligent and learn quickly.
They do need
a lot of exercise. This breed needs to be walked often. The Golden Retriever
needs a lot of living space. This means that a house or large property. An apartment is too closed in for this kind
of dog.
